Ghana failed to score in the second half after two quick first half goals from Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew in the 2019 African Cup Of Nations qualifier at the Addis Ababa Sports Stadium. Ghana is in pole position to qualify after the win against the Walias of Ethiopia.

Ayew, who deputised as the skipper for the Black Stars in place of the substantive captain Asamoah Gyan indicated the state of the pitch prevented them from playing the passing game Ghana is noted for. "I think it affected our play, Ghana is a team who like to posses and play football but the pitch was bad so we had to show maturity and experience."

"The pitch was difficult to play on, we knew that at the start of the game that due to our coach's tactics, we needed to score a goal in the first 30 minutes and we did our best to do that and we got the second after a counter attack,"

Ghana will play first place Kenya in the final qualification match next year in Ghana to determine who tops Group F, the Black Stars are second to Kenya with 6 points.
